How To -> How to Compete on a casting megasite

Posted January 13 2010 :: View Comments :: Add Comments

So how DO you compete on a casting megasite? Some folks believe you need to get your auditions posted before anyone else. I've heard from many producers that they listen as they come in and stop when they find the right voice. A few - but only a few - say they wait and listen when all are posted. And should agents only post the top eight? If so, aren't you then becoming the casting director? How are you supposed to choose between your own talent? After all, you picked them up because you thought they were the best? And do I send more than one read in my audition? Or does the producer really only listen to the first 10 seconds before moving on? Does anyone out there know how to beat the system? Or is just a numbers game now - audition 50 and land a job? And if it is a numbers game what's the magic number? We used to land 1 job for every 5 we auditioned. I can't tell you the last time that's happened. But - is it because we're auditioning larger projects? I don't think so. I think technology has changed the playing field. Ah, but that's another topic altogether.
